Volunteers

Want to volunteer?

NEFF may be just the place for you! NEFF has rewarding opportunities for volunteers throughout New England in connection with NEFF's 130 community forests. NEFF has volunteer opportunities for:

Forest Stewards
Ideally, Forest Stewards live within 10 miles of the NEFF Community Forest chosen and can visit the forest year-round. Forest Stewards report to NEFF periodically about information gathered or work completed during site visits. To learn more and submit a volunteer form to become a Forest Steward please click here.

Ecological or Historical research
NEFF is always interested in learning more about our forests and the history of the forest. Volunteers interested in helping NEFF learn more about the forest properties NEFF owns please contact Si Balch.

Community outreach
NEFF offers opportunities for neighbors and community members to come out to the woods to learn about forests and forestry. NEFF often needs help from community members when coordinating and organizing these events. For more information on being an outreach volunteer  please contact Lisa Spalding.

Trail maintenance
Many of NEFF's Community Forests have trail networks that need to be periodically cleared, waterbars repaired, and require other maintenance. Volunteers who live near a Community Forest are often essential for maintaining trails. If you are interested in volunteering to maintain a trail contact Lisa Spalding.

Friends of Prouty Woods
The Friends of Prouty Woods is a group of individuals and businesses that care deeply about the stewardship, educational programming, and financial stability of Prouty Woods Community Forest. You are encouraged to become a Friend of Prouty Woods! There are many volunteer opportunities at Prouty Woods including gardening and mowing, helping with educational programs, controlling invasive plants , and maintaining buildings . To learn more and volunteer at Prouty Woods please click here.

Photography
NEFF is continuously updating files of pictures of NEFF forests. If you like to take pictures and want to take some in a NEFF forest or two please contact Lisa Spalding.

Office support
NEFF can always use help in the office with mailings, filing and other projects. To volunteer to help out in the office in Littleton, please contact Penny Flynn.
